CKB conducted a feasibility study of commercial air purification technologies for an Asia-based investment firm as part of the firm's investment to expand a US-based manufacturer of a disruptive, leading-edge air purification technology.  CKB’s role: 
  • Research commercial air purification technologies
  • Assess and determine most applicable industry segments for international expansion into Asia
  • Assist manufacturer's newly installed U.S.-based CEO with establishing and expanding Asia presence including distribution channels

Corporate Finance • China Shareholder Dispute Resolution
CKB advised a U.S. investment fund during a dispute it was having with the Chinese shareholders.  CKB’s role:
  • Help Client understand the situation on the ground in China and prepare its negotiation strategy
  • Help Client understand the cultural nuances and sensitivities in communicating with their Chinese counterparts

CKB advised a U.S. media & marketing communications MNC on M&A opportunities in China.  CKB’s role:

CKB advised a Hong Kong-based startup which provides innovative energy-efficient cooling solutions to the telecom industry.  CKB’s role:

CKB assisted a U.S. insurance MNC with their Asia Pacific strategy planning.  CKB’s role:
  • Part of 3-person team working with local market leaders to develop key initiatives through 2015 planning period

Corporate Finance & Operations • Malaysia Divestiture
CKB advised a U.S. human resources & financial services consulting MNC to lead the divestiture of one of its businesses in Malaysia via a sale to local management.  CKB’s role:
  • Develop divestiture project plan
  • Lead a 20-person Client team covering all aspects of the divestiture including client services, finance, HR, IT, legal, real estate and PR & communications
  • Advise on transaction structuring and execution
  • Act as mediator between buyer and seller to recommend and negotiate solutions to bring the transaction to a speedy and successful close

China Strategy • Media & Marketing Communications Industry
CKB, as the project leader in collaboration with external consultants, advised a U.S. media & marketing communications MNC to create a new China growth strategy.  CKB’s role:
  • Develop project plan and identify key inputs
  • Analyze industry trends, competitive landscape, and M&A transactions
  • Sanity checking inputs of other external consultants
  • Lead presentation to senior regional and global management to craft the China opportunity which served as the foundation for the new strategy

CKB advised one of the largest sports unions in Hong Kong, and host of the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, one of the most widely recognized and anticipated annual sporting events in Asia, on ways to improve its PR and marketing communications.  CKB’s role:
  • Conduct online survey of Hong Kong’s rugby community and interviewed key sponsors and constituents
  • Identify material weaknesses in PR and marketing
  • Develop detailed roadmap to clearly define the roles, responsibilities and requirements necessary for improving effectiveness of its marketing and PR

Market Assessment • China & Japan Golf Markets
CKB advised UK-based owners of classic British golf brand (once played by Sean Connery as James Bond in Goldfinger) on opportunities to expand into China & Japan.  CKB’s role:
  • Analyze golfing and golf equipment markets in China and Japan
  • Develop market entry positioning strategies based on research insights
  • Evaluate alternative investment and exit options
  • Determine investment required to penetrate and be competitive could not be financially justified and best course of action was to not move forward
  • Honest assessment helped Client better assess future prospects and alternative exit strategies; ultimately divesting the business via management buyout
